Steve's Journal 2002

A Personal observation.

On a recent trip with Dr. Pat, I began to experience the awesome power of prayer.  As we followed the path and direction of the Lord, his mighty shield of protection went before us, keeping us safe.  More than a thousand people were praying for the protection of our group.  I could almost reach out and touch the shield around us.  We were able to provide encouragement and Bibles to our brothers and sisters in Egypt and Israel.  No door was closed to us and no threat could penetrate the protection that God provided.  For example, as the day approached to smuggle Bibles into Gaza, the violence subsided just long enough for us to get in and back out.  The books that they waited 12 months for were delivered because Christians were praying fervently for us that day.  In this experience we began to understand why our suffering brothers and sisters need so desperately our prayers.  They spend every day under the specter of violence, under the weight of oppression.  All they ask of us is that we pray for them.  Having seen the mighty shield of protection that God provides, I can attest to the urgent need for prayer on behalf of my brothers and sisters.  They are your brothers and sisters too.  Won’t you pray for them?

Thoughts on our purpose.

Our purpose is not to solve the political, economic or religious controversies of our time.  Paul told Titus, “But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.”  (Titus 3:9)  The conflict between Israel and Palestine has no easy answers.  Only Jesus can bring peace to the region.  The purpose of our ministry is to call together Christians from everywhere to pray for our brothers and sisters, both Messianic Jew and Palestinian Christian, who are suffering because of the conflict.  They are the light in their dark world, letting the love of Jesus flow through them to reach the lost.  We must pray for their protection, for their strength, and for their opportunity to make disciples among the Muslims and Jews.
